Nancy Parker Troy, ADCRG (RIP)
Nancy Parker Troy was one of the earliest members of An Comhdhail Muinteori na Rince Gaelacha (The Congress of Irish Dance Teachers) and she dedicated her love of Irish dance to the organisation as a teacher, adjudicator, grading examiner, executive member and panel member.
Nancy was a larger than life character, full of fun and joy. She had many lives and different roles, but her true passion in life was Irish Dancing. From the age of 17 she cycled miles every week to classes in every corner of Co. Waterford and Co. Kilkenny. Nancy travelled the world and taught dancing in California, which she loved, but she always returned to her beloved crystal city. Nancy taught most of the dance teachers that have schools in Waterford today. She also made teachers that now have schools in Los Angeles, Canada, Dubai, and Perth. Nancy had pupils in Riverdance, Lord of the Dance, Gaelforce Dance and numerous touring shows. As a school, the dancers won every possible title, including 1st 2nd and 3rd in the same age at the All Ireland Championships!
Nancy never missed the An Comhdhail AGM/Convention so it was lovely when her friends and members of her beloved Comhdhail surprised her with a 90th birthday cake at the gala ball a few years back in 2014. As well as her love of dance, Nancy was a multi-talented woman, and if there was a piano nearby she would be straight on to it to play a reel or hornpipe and insist that everyone get up and dance.
Nancy's legacy will live on in Irish dancing as her beloved dance school, the Troy-Baldwin Academy, continues to grow and flourish with daughter Muriel and granddaughter Candice at the helm.
